Getting ready to install to the bottom of the passenger side rear seat but then I read in another post that an amp cant cool its self upside down?

Does it really make that much of a difference? My rear AC vent is on the floor and should keep a cool breeze near the amp.

Any comments?

I think it will cool fine, as long as the cooling fins on the top of it are getting air. It should be fine under your seat.

I wouldn't see why you couldn't mount it upside down as long as you have nice cool air flow moving around it. Its just harder for the amp to disapate(sp?) the heat cause the heatsinks are on the top of the amp. Try it and see what happens. That is the only way we learn.

Quite a few guys do this type install and it appears to work just fine.

Why do you want to mount under seat rather than on the floor?

Thanks....

I was thinking about mounting under the seat so no one would step on it and no one would be able to see it. I think I'll try it and see what happens..

worst that could happen is that it cuts out because of the heat?

then I could put it on the floor.

If you have problems with it overheating then get yourself a large 12 volt DC fav and mounted above the heatsink to help cool the amp. You normally want to mount it in the middle of the heat sink so the air flow goes along the sinks

Most amps don't recomend it cause the heat soaks into the circut board where it shouldn't be. Most companies say not to do it and it will void a few waranties. At least get a fan. A/c isn't always on.

If you do it then make sure you put a fan on it . Heat rises so if it is upsidedown then the heat wont leave the amp.

I got my amp delivered from eBay today

Hi guys, Thanks for all the great replys and information. I got my amp today. Rockford Fosgate 400s.

In the instructional manual its says
mounting the amp vertically is recommended to keep the amp cool. Mounting upside down is not recommended and will severly affect performance.

Well there goes the idea of mounting upside down under the seat.

My plan for this weekend is to fit it in the passenger rear quarter like most people do. Im hoping to fit it in and be able to keep my storage bin. Will also add a computer fan in there too to keep things cooler.

ill keep you posted and take pictures

i would not reccommend mounting your amp upside down.

like others said some companys will void warranties and the trouble you have to go through placing fans on the amp to keep it cool just isn't worth it.

mount it right side up and be done with it...let the amp cool itself thats they way it was designed to work.
