Need to remove the console so that I can install new headliner. Removed two screws in the rear section. The console now moves around. Tried pulling to rear and pushing toward windshield but it won't come out. I don't see any more screws to remove. Read other posts but still can't figure it out.

Help.

Thanks

got it out. just pulled real hard and out it came. those two clips are tough. I figure that if something broke, I would just glue it back together. That thing had to come out. Got the headliner out also. Looks like it is going to be a big job.

Yeah, those clips can be really hard to pull out, especially once they get a little rusty. It doesn't help that the plastic gets brittle with age. I usually put a dab of white grease on the clips before reinstalling them.

I've been needing to replace the overhead console on my Explorer. The thermometer/compass has stopped working. However I have a moonroof so I don't have an opening compartment for the garage door opener. How do I get to the screws to loosen it?

You do not have the two screws. Pull back the window molding on the rear of the console and the console will come down in the rear. There are the two clips on the front, just pull it down and release the wire plugs and you are done. gook luck, just did mine.

thank you! I'll give that a try

edit:
Yep, that worked! Now if I can only find a good one in a salvage yard....

I've repaired 2 of my overhead displays by re-soldering the 2 resistors marked "510". Easy fix. The displays have been working for several years since the repair.

thanks again, I'll look into it. But I just got back from the salvage yard, Got a working one for 30 bucks.
