Dont the interior lights go off after the doors are pen for a while in a 97? I often tailgate or have the trunk open for hours, and I don't want to drain the battery or waste bulbs. Is there a way to get them to turn off? the light in the hood does.

Yes, I know about the dimmer switch in the "on" position, and that's not it.

Thanks!

On 98 and newer explorers they can be disable by the dimmer switch (by the way you can swap one of those into yours). But if the lights are on for more than 45 minutes or so they will automatically turn off.

lights

cool. 45 minutes I can deal with...I guess I just never timed it...seemed like hours.

Just reach up and lock the stiker on the open hatch with your hand. The light will go off. When you go to close the hatch, unlock the gate again....

The striker looks like two crab claws. Only one of them triggers the hatch switch for the lights.....

How? I have a newer switch. It had more wires than my switch has.

Not sure exactly. Maybe ask Ray Lobato. He was the one inquiring about it a while back.

yup, they'll shut off after 40 minutes. when I go camping though, I just pull the fuse.

Heh, we got our switches from the same person at the same time. We gave up on them.

You wanna sell your switch?

i got a 95 XLT and i go to drive in movies in the summer, (yeah i know i got good shocks :D )
anyways my lights wouldn't go out for a long time, mysbe 45 min, but anyways it just p!ssed me off, so i just pulled the fuse!!! just look in the owners manual, its like a 20 amp mini fuse, just pull it, no more lights!!!

PS: make sure you have a flashlight, and 2nd REPLACE THE FUSE!!!!!

PPS: This is probably the most PITA way to get the lights off, but whatever im bored!!

Just playing around with the door latch and I got it to turn off the lights and darn noise with key in ignition :), but I noticed a small spring that didn't look like it was attached to anything. Anyone have a clue what this could be? Everything seems ok and working.

It's the drivers side door BTW.

I have no clue where it's at. I guess I'll just keep it, wherever it is.
