I'm hooking up a friends stereo and was just wondering can I run my ground wire for the amp FROM the capacitor's neg. post or does the amp have to be ground seperately? Just don't want to have to drill another hole in his trunk floor if I don't have to!!

Well a ground is a ground, but couldnt you just run a ground from the amp and one from the cap to the same screw?

not with the ring terminals im using.....they're really thick gold plated ones.....all i can do is make a new hole if i wanted to do that......it may be my only option to make another ground and just ground the amp and cap seperate

i have a 4 gauge ground from my amp going to a screw behind the rear seat. i also have another 4 gauge ground coming from my caps to the same ground. i also have 4 gauge ring terminals into the plus of the caps.. no problems. try wiggling it around a bit

i am not 100% sure but i think you have to ground it seperately... i haven't used a lighting cap in a long tiem though..

i have mine grounded sep. but you should be able to ground them together, it shouldn't be a problem...

Ideally you want both grounded in as shorts as possible, but if you can, go with lower guage (mabey 2?) wire from the cap to the ground. Ideally keep it short and you should be fine.

Ideally its best to ground all caps and amps seperate. If you're drilling a hole or using an existing bolt, file and sand down to shiny bare metal. Also a good idea every 6 months to unbolt it and sand the metal off any oxidation.

thats a good idea lucid ( 6 mos.),

you think its that bad if the amps are grounded together (like mine..?), and the cap grounded sep...?

No, not if you use a junction box, have a low draw under 500w or so. If you're not getting noise either don't worry about it. I'm talking rule of thumb in installs. You know like you keep stock wiring for deck only upgrades and upgrade the wire to speakers when you amp...
