Hi all. I live in Iowa where we got dumped with 15 in. of snow here in the last few days. Anyways, I'm thinking this question might be weather related. I went and unburied my '03 Explorer and tried starting it but its making a clicking sound as I turn the ignition and it says check fuel cap. I unscrewed the gas cap a few times and blew the snow around it out thinking that might be the problem. That hasn't worked so now I am at a loss. Any suggestions or is this something that will go away on its own as it warms up. I read somewhere that unhooking the battery for a short stint might help. Let me know and thanks.

does it start at all? i`ll bet your battery is dead. the clicking noise is it`s way of telling you you don`t have enough juice to crank the engine. boost it and get a new battery

Thanks for the suggestion. Tried jumping the vehicle and it still wouldn't work. Continued making the same clicking noise so now I am wondering if it has anything to do with the alternator or starter or if it still has something to do with the battery. I did notice some snow under my hood caused by the massive storm we had. My guess is that it came in through the grill and situated itself. Still at a loss though.

check and see if your battery terminals are corroded. clean them off so they make a good connection and you should be good.
