I have a stock 2003 Explorer Limited, AWD.
It holds idle fine when you start the car. If you rev the engine up to about 4k, then let go of the throttle it will die. It's like it doesn't attempt to hold the idle. If you take it to 4k, let off the throttle, but help it achieve idle then let off it will maintain it.
The car starts back up fine, holds the idle fine... It's not missing, or running rough.
My first thought was a vacuum leak but there was no check engine light. Normally you would get some codes from that. I sprayed carb cleaner on the hoses i could find on top of the engine hoping the car would idle up if I found a leak. I got nothing.
I'm going to assume now that it may be the throttle position sensor... but I'm really just guessing and going off what other people have told me to check (none of which are professional mechanics)
Any ideas what to check? The Throttle Position sensor is only 25 bucks so I'm going to attempt to change that (assuming it's not extremely difficult).
Thanks,
Eric
