... of changing between side 1 if the "Tape" to side 2 of the tape, so i get about 20 seconds of music from my portable cd player, then click... changes sides, 20 seconds more, click... and so on. I know this is a stupid question, but is there anything I can do about it other than get an actual cd player in the car?

As I understand it there are three options.

1. Turn off the auto-reverse on your tape deck if you can

2. Get a new adaptor designed for auto reverse tape decks

3. Get a CD deck

Thats probably not really what you wanted to hear but it's all I have to offer. Except that I've had the same trouble years ago and ended up getting a new deck.

You probably will not be able to solve this problem. Your Ford Premium Cassette radio has a "tape-tightening" routine built into it, which automatically takes up the slack on a cassette tape when it is inserted. Your radio thinks the cassette/CD adapter is a tape that is too loose, and will continually try to "tighten it".

Some brands of CD/Cassette adapters were a little less susceptible to this problem, but none of them consistently enough that I could make a recommendation.

Your choices are (other than buying a dozen different brands of Cassette/CD adapters and trying each) to either add a factory CD Changer, or replace the entire system (no aftermarket head unit will work with your '95 Ford/JBL sound system).

what a pain these 95 fords. i have the exact same problem with the tape deal. how much do u think it will cost to replace the whole system?

To replace it by the dealer? LOTS. Get an aftermarket system.

no not by the dealer, by like goho or some audio shop. how much do u think if i bought all the things myself and hooked it up. im not sure how i would wire it because there is rear console controls and such. the radio is also in the back.

I had been using a cassette tape adapter in my truck for at least a year with my PocketPC as an MP3 player and never had a problem. I got it from Best Buy for like $15 and it's not the Sony one, it's the no name one. Now I use that in my Acura and not a problem either. So check that one out.

On the other hand....I had a Sony adapter that used to work....try changing the tape setting if it has one. Some adapters have a switch that moves the "where the tape should be" thing around a bit

you can also get one of the FM transmitters....

I got a cheap one @ best buy for about 20 bux....but they make more expensive ones as well...

they broadcast on the lower end of the FM spectrum.

How To Turn Off Auto Reverse

Hi,

I have a 95 LTD with a JBL Premium System. I want to turn off the auto reverse to see if I can make my cassette adapter work.

I know people have said that it is the auto tape tightening feature. Can thsi be turned off? I imagine not.

I got an adapter that has both wheels connected so they both spin but still no luck.

There has got to be a way to resolve this. Any help would be really appreciated! I really do not want to go FM modulation.

Thanks,

The tape tightening routine built into the factory radio's software CANNOT be defeated.

Some brands of "Cassette Adapters" work better than others in this application. Labratory tests however, were inconclusive with regard to which ones might be counted on to work in this application. Sorry.

My sony adapter works. Well one day every three months or so it revolts, but otherwise it works dandy with my karma.

Yeah, I cannot find a Sony one anywhere. I tried about 6 other brands with no sucess. I did test out 1 FM modulator, the type that is powered by batteries and they seem to be really poor quality and signal strength. I now have purchased the FM modulator that connects to my cig. Lighter and this seem to work a lot better. The only conplaint is that when I step on the gas the whine interferance is pretty annoying. Anyone know how to reduce that type of interferance?

Thanks,
