my exhaust is rattling enormously loud and my dad thinks it is the catalytic converter dying (he used to work with cars when he was young)

it's an old 95' with 137K miles

Also, while i'm on subject, how do I stop that annoying radiator leak that no leak stoppers fix...?

Make sure the rattling isn't just a heatshield rattling around or a pipe banging against something. My guess is you either have a loose heatshield or loose exhaust hanger.

sorry, we tried banging numerous murder objects against the exhaust and got no noise from rattles.

Well then it could definately be the honeycomb inside the converter breaking apart. Time for a new one I guess. Do you have any exhaust mods?

no, just stock

Well then. Time to get a high flow cat and maybe a decent catback setup. However to make the most of your catback you should also get an intake kit like the KKM.

I know you probably don't want to spend too much money right now, but if you're already getting a new cat might as well do your catback too.

Go to www.magnaflow.com and find your local dealer.

Good luck!

I would think that if the converter was clogged, or clogging, you'd also start to have performance problems (as one example, needing more accelerator than normal) and maybe backflow through the EGR valve. You may also find the X runs well untill the converter heats up, then you get problems.

Do a search on the posts about the radiator as there are many mentions about the metal to plastic and transmission cooling line leaks. I have a '94 with 155K and just had to have the radiator replaced.

I think cats are covered under a 100,000 mile warranty, but unfortunatley you are past that. I would recommend getting some high-flows.
