word is you aren't gonna see the performance gains you might think by removing the cats on an explorer, and frankly its just not worth it.
and it doesn't matter if you live in an emission control area or not, keep the cats and keep SUV's on the road
sorry if this comes off political, and i swear i am not a tree hugger. just don't see the point if your car will go basically the same, performance wise, with or without the cats, and they will help out the enviroment if you have them.
And if you really think the cats are gonna hold you back, look into replacing them with a performance aftermarket, Jeg's carries some by dynomax that are pretty cheap and according to the write up, one of them will handle everything your engine can throw at it.
It would still be a very good idea to put a cat on it. I used to have a Cherry Bomb Glasspack, the sound was very loud both in and out of the cabin, and it and the drone sound was terrible
My neighbor just bought a Ram for his son and it has glass packs and sounds HORRIBLE!!!!!!! Every time it goes by, I can't help but LAUGH at it because it sounds so STUPID. He thinks it sounds cool, but everyone on our street hates it.
Don't get glass packs.
Ok, I have a related question here. I want to do the same thing, cat back with Delta 50's but I want to go up to a 2.5" pipe with a 3" outlet. Here's my question. Do I have the 2.25" - 2.5" adapter put on before or after the muffler? To me it would seem to make sense to put it on BEFORE the muffler, so the muffler flow is larger. BUt I'm just guessing here, can anyone give me some advice? Also where is the difference in 2 and 4 door systems? I find only 1 or 2 2 door systems, but ALOT of 4 door ones. Is there somewhere I could just cut 10" ( the diff. between 2 and 4 door length) out of a straight pipe? Or would I be better off just having a shop fab the pipes and buy the muffler?
I remember in my old home town, guys would pour gas down the glasspacks before installing them, that way it'd burn all the fiberglass out right away. Then they would be seriously loud.
Sounds like a Flowmaster 50 is the way to go? I want some noise, but it's also my only vehicle, so I have to consider the family as well. I can't have it too loud.
