2004 XLT Sport Package V8
I have a stock 04' XLT 4.6L V8 with just a drop in K&N air filter. I'm thinking about a catback system for my X. I do not want a welded in muffler. I was looking at the MAC Catback system. Does anyone have this exhaust on their X V8? I want to know how loud it is or does anyone have a catback that they are very happy with? Gibson?? I'm looking for a mild tone on accelaration and that has very little interior noise while driving on the highway. The reason being that I have a 21mo. old baby and he watches DVD's and I don't want to hurt his hearing.

Thank you in advance for your help.

i've got the gibson, and its not very loud on the freeway. Its louder when the truck is in low revs 2-3000 Accelerating mainly. I have heard the gibson the the quietest, thats why i went with it. If you decide on it, it is worth replacing the tip that comes in the cat back package, with the gibson intercooled one. It lowers the interior noise quite a bit and gives off a better tone outside. my 2 cents worth.

Darkstone do you have any pics of the exhaust on your X? And did you notice any gas mileage or performance gains from doing a catback system. Did you get the stainless steel package?

Thanks

More low end torque and feels like it has more power. Also noticed slightly improved gas mileage, about 1 mpg or so. Really helps on the highway. I used to get around 17.5 to 18 on highway, now I get around 19 or 20 if i stay below 75. Sorry i dont have any pics other than the ones in the community area. I got the aluminized one, instead of the stainless. I figure the aluminized one will last me as long as I own the truck.

well just to throw it out there, i have a flowmaster 40 and its quite loud... although im running a V6, i have heard a flowmaster 70 and 50 on V8s... they have more baffles so they have a much deeper tone and r pretty mild in the cabin.. pretty much as long as that pipe exits in the back i think ur baby should do just fine... and the power and gas mileage def comes from changing mufflers... if u look at the stock one, it is soooolong and cuts off soo much air flow... my 0-60 is about 8.5 seconds with the cold air filter and the aftermarket exhaust, although urs will be better with the V8... much improvement, much more horsepower, and better gas mileage

I have the MAC performance cat back system. Easy to install, took only an hour to install (includes removal of old system). The only issue I have with the system is that it is not loud enough to be heard from inside the passenger cabin. The chrome tip is also kinda difficult to keep clean due to road grime. But the black coating has so far lasted a year and a half.

I have run the MAC and I am a dealer as well. The system is a good quality unit.

Bring that kid up right, and let him hear what a V-8 is suppose to sound like.:D

so which system is better, MAC or Gibson?
Price Wise?
Power?

im pretty sure hes talking about a V8 although imco wouldnt be bad.. with a V8 pretty much anything sounds similar

it is for the 4.6L. I dont want it really loud, its a SUV not a truck. If someone knows if the MAC or Gibson is louder let me know. thanks guys

if u want one that u can tell is there, but isnt ear-piercing, get a flowmaster 50... it has a few more baffles and a different path for the exhaust to flow to get it a little quieter and deeper.. sounds beastly

I Had A 1997 With A 5.0 And The Gibson And It Had Good Tone But Not To Loud
But You Could Hear It Had A V8
The Price Is A Little High But Not That Bad I Think It Was Like $360 Or So For The Alumnized And Like $460 For The Stainless I Got It From
Explorer Express They Have A Web Site
