Cats are gone!!!!!

Actually if its ever caught or inspected and found to have the cats removed they can impound and crush it without the owner even having a chance to get it back. At least thats how it is here in Cali.

I don't think it's that harsh around places like this. But still, the fines are plenty large enough, like a few grand. And yea, just listened to the sound clips. It sounds like a fart can to no end. All sounded like the idle on the first sound clip wasn't very regular, as well as being way too high. My guess is this is from the missing cats.

it idles at around 1k rpm until it gets warm then it idles down to about 750.

When I paid for my mountaineer I gained the right to do what ever the hell I want to it. Where I live there are no emissions testing so it is legal enough for me.

You are right, you can do anything you want to it. But if it is going to be used for anything other than off-road use, then you have to abide by federal and state laws. Just because there are no inspections does not mean it is legal. My opinion is because of people like you in the past others are burdened by inspections now.

As a side note, I do not see anything cool about having a horrible sounding rattle trap that is emitting more pollution for me and others to breathe. I know you have no formal education in ecology or environmental pollutants and their effects, but I do not think you need to know the details to have a basic comprehension of what those effects are.

Federal Law prohibits removal or replacement of a properly functioning O.E. catalytic converter. Check with EPA guidlines, they don't care who paid for your car, it still emits c02 that Everyone breathes.

Go put your cat back on.

Hero to Zero in 24 posts, must be some form of record, apart from reading lots of **** on the net and parroting it at every opportunnity do any of you seppo's actually know anything, what about the tonnes of paladium being dumped from cat convertors onto your streets then washed into your waterways every time it rains, but I guess that is legal so its cool, IDIOTS

Yeah it dosen't sound that great on the vid clips but that may sound different in person.

Nitroamines, acid rain, clean air act, If I went deeper would have a clue or just complain about everybody else. I am a practicing Environmental Engineer, what you got?

Fine. Modify it however you like. But you loose the privilege of driving on public roads.

Catalytic converters are mandated by Federal law, not state. Just because you don't have emissions testing doesn't mean you can hurt the environment we all share.

Or in your case, 79 posts.

Big deal i beat it still he still has better emissions then a lot of car out today. And if yall really cared about emissions and all you would not drive a SUV that get 16 mpg.

Let us try not to call people "idiots" hmmmkay? And if that "idiot" label was directed towards "seppos", then you've made a wrong generalization because most "seppos" know plenty (maybe even how to spell "palladium").

Hey Scotty, do YOU actually know anything? Palladium is 1 of 3 PGM in catalytic converters used as a catalyst, why do you think its called a catalyitic converter. It doesnt just blow out the exhaust. I understand Palladium has the same health effects as Mercury, but no one is eating catalytic converters.
You do realize that 1 in 4 goods manufactured today either contain some sort of PGM, or PGMs had a role in thier production. Thats a lot of stuff.
I dont understand how that should be illegal. What I do understand to be illegal, is the removal of a catalytic converter. The removal of a cat does much more damage to the environment then palladium could possibly do. Im no tree huggin hippie, but i like to breath fresh air.

Doubtful. My "16mpg SUV" has cats on it. EPA requires all vehicles to have cats since '75, and manufactures today are required to keep emmisions within a range that is acceptable, so it doesnt matter.

Not just talking about the US but place wear they have next to nothing as far as emission control. Your car still has worse emissions the a smaller car so if you cared about them why not drive a lil 4 banger.

Which other countries are you talking about?
My car is not as efficient as a 4cyl. The difference is not going to be that large, since my vehicle has cats. Like I said, im not a tree hugger, but I do think it is important.

...Just speaking for myself, (but I do know a lot of other members here have economy cars as their daily drivers)...Mine is a 4L ranger and my SUV is my offroad truck...They both meet the smog requirements of my State and I will always keep my cat's on as required by Federal Law...

..I'm not really seeing your reason to try and instigate an arguement on a so called SUV board, but I am seeing a strong belief in doing what we can to abide by the current law's and protect our environment...;)

IF you burn 1/2 as much gas the emissions will be about 1/2 b/c the lil car have cats 2 but burns a lot less gas. India is one that come to mind. India does not yet have across the board emissions regulations, they only sat down to talk about making them mandatory in October 2007 and it's supposed to take effect for various vehicles over the next 2 years.

In not trying to start a fight. Just saying that removing a cat is not the worst thing you can do. If some one suped up a SUV got 10 mpg but was jacked up and all that stuff and still had the cat's on would get have worse emissions then his car with just the cats off and no one would say anything.

...Actually, they probably would...I believe that is why this thread is getting such an adimate response of someone taking there cat's off...

...Btw, this would be a good topic to discuss over here...

What I mean is at any given point in time, the difference is not that much, compared to not having a catalyst.

You are right about India. However, we are in the US. Removing a cat is not the worst thing that you could do, but it has a negative consequence.
