Anyone ever have a problem with their stock CD player kicking out CDs then start making a click noise? This just started happening to me and pissing me off. If my stock headunit hasn't been on for hours I can pop in a CD and play it fine, but once I take out the CD and throw in another one, it starts making all the clicking noise and kicks the CD out.

I took apart my radio to see what the problem was, but I still can't figure it out. If I hover my hand over the CD player without the metal casing on top of it, the CD will play automatically  If I don't hover my hand over it, it starts the clicking crap and spits the CD out. This just boggles my mind and I don't feel like buying a new HU since I'm getting rid of the Explorer before I move overseas. Any head is appreciated!

The clicking is the laser trying to focus and slamming to the top and bottom ....

The reason it won't work unless you put your hand over the top is one of the light sensors is seeing light when it shouldn't so most likely the player thinks there is no cd in it since the CD blocks the light in normal usage and that let's the drive know there is a CD in it ... when you have the top off the light leaks in and the player gets a "no CD, reset" signal ....

Most likely the REAL problem is the spindle motor is getting weak and after it warms up it can't lock the speed properly and the laser in turn can't read the data right and loses focus and tracking .... you can try spraying a **tiny** amount of silicone lube on the top of the motor where the shaft comes though **AFTER** it starts acting up ... then try it again, if it works the motor is bad and needs replaced, if it doesn't work it's probably something else, perhaps the laser getting weak and overheating

Wow...I'll try that out tomorrow morning and see what happens. Thanks!

I'm having the exact same issue.
