Mine skips when it gets hot. Is it warm in NY?? :D

My stocker would get hot with the heat on and about after an hour it wouldn't play any disc. It would spit them out and say "too hot" and the disc would be hot enough where you couldn't hold them.

its been hot as %%^# out here, but even at night whrn the AC is on? its absolutely horrible today. nothing will play in my head unit or chnager. AM and FM are fine.

dirty CD 's ?

Don't go to ford for a new head unit. I am in the same boat as far as wanting to keep stock (steering wheel controls, rear controls etc) There are several audio repair type places that you can buy from (many of which are on Ebay) You'll pay much less through them to get a replacment head unit.

Just so you know, in the hot weather, when the truck sits, the inside temp gets up there. then getting into the truck and driving, and cranking the AC cools everything off, untill... you shut off the truck, then everything gets hot again. Simple physics, condensation. It's forming on the lens each cycle of hot to cold back to hot it goes through. Each time it does this, the small particles in the air are trapped within the condensation and settle on the lens.

I've attempted to clean mine a total of 14 times the past month with those stupid "brush" type cd cleaners, brand new pioneer unit, lens had a film of "fine dust" barely noticable, had to open cover and clean the lens with a q-tip and windex. No more skipping or tracking probs.

I've done this to countless other cd players as well, factory OR aftermarket, typical problem, and most people toss out completely good units because they think they are going dead.

Some HU's have a harder time reading home burnt stuff.
Did you try a " real " CD ? ( for lack of better terms )

ya. same sh*t. its better now, but occasionally pisses me off. it skips on every little bump too. ahhhhhhhhhhh pain in the @$$

Freshly burnt?

Are you sure the unit is rated (Multiplay) for CR-rs? You need more laser power to read a CD-r because it isn't really pitted like a 'real' CD but is recorded magnetically ... sure it might work when the player is new and the laser is 'fresh' but as it weakens with age it won't even though it still meets spec for a normal CD ...

Since both are doing it the same I'd say this is your problem ...

One thing you can try depending on your burning software is have it recalibrate your burner's laser or have it put out a bit more power (warning: it can shorten the life of the laser in your burner) ... try the calibration procedure first if your software has it
