So I am dealing with a code 430 .... cat convertor below threshold.
To make sure it isn't something else, I change plugs, wires, clean the MAF, new fuel and air filters. It needed all these anyway. Plugs and wires were OEM from the assembly line.
Resigning myself that I will probably need to change the cat and/or all the O2 sensors ... all this stuff is 13 years old .... only 72K miles, but still, 13 years old.
Read a tip here to tap on the cat with a rubber hammer to see if there is a bunch of the media rattling around loose. No real big conclusion here ... didn't hear much.
Got in to drive it, and wouldn't you know ... after it warmed up, the Check Engine Light went out.
Probably will still need a cat soon, but I probably knocked enough crud loose that it can breathe OK again. LOL.
