my 2002 explorer has inoperable key fobs. lights and alarm come on between midnight and 2 in the morning about once a month. dealer analysis for $250 says it may be the central security module. they wanted an extra $400. I decided to get my own for $130. When I "plug in", do I have to return to dealer for programming or, can I do it myself? New module has a 5 digit code and says the existing module should stay in place. Can anyone advise how to program myself?

I'm in a similar boat as you, I am interested in adding the Ford security module to my vehicle which only has keyless entry right now. Has anyone put one of these alarms in themselves, is it something the end user can install?
