I just switched out my shocks on my 94' explorer and when I took off both the driver's and the passenger's side shocks, the nuts locked onto the stud thread and snapped (I assume from old age). Now, the question is, where can I get new studs?

The shocks went back on fine, but only the top nut is securing the shock in place since the bottom was slid on (where the stud broke). I drive this truck about once a week and don't really offroad - yet. Even though the shocks aren't secured by the washer, nut on the lower stud, do they pose a big risk of sliding off?

I didn't try to remove the rear shocks because I was afraid that I would break the studs like the fronts. So I do need to find 4 studs to be on the safe side.

Thanks in advance.

The same thing happened to me. I drilled the studs and welded new threads back in. Did this over a year ago and have not had any problems with it.

The rear shocks don't have studs (take a peek at the new ones) so there is nothing to really break. Othere members have broken off the stud and have gotten a repair stud kit. I guess you drill out the broken stud and attach the repair kit one..
