Changer in rear storage bin....Anyone?

I think I've heard of this being done, but I can't seem to find any information about it. What I would like to do is mount a 6-disc CD changer in the right rear quarter panel where the storage bin currently is (box with the net in front). The best solution I have come up with so far would be to cut out the back of the existing box, and fab. up some sort of plywood/metal contraption to secure the changer. Any ideas? Pics of a custom install like this would be ideal!

The only problem I see with mounting it that far back is when the time comes to change cd's.

Ideal for saving room, but I wouldn't enjoy running circles around the truck to change them every so often. Perhaps under front/rear seats?

I would do it in the center console. Easy to get to, and you don't have to take your eyes off the road (for too long anyway) to change cd's. Or you could have a passanger do it also.

I had mine in the console. If you think about it though, 6 disk is allot of music. If you have to change a disk in the changer, just pull over. Don't you also have a CD player in the dash? That is where I play the "on the whim" CD. It can be done in that storage bin. Hang around, these guys will come up with a way to do it, they are the best and most creative bunch I have seen in a long time. =S=

depending how you wanted it mounted, you could a sheet of mdf like your going to build a stealhbox. then cut a space out to slide in the cd changer. The on the back fabricate some mounting brackets. then vinyl it (wont be too hard if no1 will see the back of the mdf) and install it. Think of it as a BIG cd player install.

:) Thanks for all the ideas. My console is already occupied with other equipment, and the changer won't allow the seat to fold properly if I mount it under there. Both excellent locations though. The stealthbox idea sounds good, I'll have to go take some measurements. Too bad I won't have much time to work on it this week.

I do have the in-dash cd by the way, but the CD mechanism tends to overheat on long trips (common problem, I know) :fire: . I do want to keep my factory head unit, so part of the idea is to remove the cd load from the in-dash unit.
