Hey Frank,

Welcome to the site. You can do a search for oil and it will have most of the answers you need.

If I were you I would check the manual or the fill cap I think Ford wants 5w30 in the engines now.
Personally I use a synthetic(Mobil1) 5w30 in my(older) Explorer every 7500 miles. I change the filter with the oil and one time between oil changes( say 3500-4000miles).

Youll get plenty of opinions on this but thats my take, do a search there was an excellent thread on Synth oils a while back should answer your question.

Just my thoughts:

I use Valvoline Max life 10w30 and a Fram oil filter every 3500 miles. The truck has 130,000 miles on the original engine (knock on wood) and still runs great. Therefore, I am stickin' with it!

cheap synth alternative

Ive been running Greased Lightings fully synthetic 5w 30 and its been great so far..Cost about half the price of big name synthetics.I always use a big name synthetic filter ...I know I dont need to but I change it every 2900-3K just to be safe and always have clean oil...Its so cheap you can afford to as well. I wasnt sure about using that oil,but it is pure DuPont teflon,so i know its not gonna hurt. anyway thats my .02
