changing overhead console lens from green to blue?

i think it was this forum that i saw a long time ago about changing the color of the overhead console lens (thing temperture and direction) from the green color to a blue color. i tried searching, but couldnt find anything. does anyone remember this thread, or know how to do this? thanks a lot!

you mean like the color of the 95-97s? (my 96s display)

im not 100% sure on this....but i think the lens is what makes it the color it is. so just find a lense from a 95-97

or maybe its the actual display..im not sure but then you would just have to replace the dispay with one from a 95-97..

right?

see, thats what i dont know, lol. i think it was something like the display is blue anyway, but the platic peice makes it green, but there was a way to change the lens, but i cant remember for sure

ya, i managed to pop out the lens when i painted the console, but it is the lens that makes it green? and your positive that the lens out of a 95-97 will make the digits on the display appear blue? if you havent been able to tell, im goin for a blue theme, lol

yeah...thats what im not sure of...but if you can find a 95-97 lense its worth a shot..thne you would know if you need another display or not.

ok...well the lens idea is out the window..lol i took mine off and its a very light blue/almost white.
what it looks like with the lens cover off.

so i think your going to have to get a display from a 95-97..sorry

dont be sorry, i appreciate ya doin it...so its a bluish white color? hmm, that gives me ideas...wait a minute...i bought this console off ebay, and it was from a later generation explorer (95-01) hmmm...time to call phil martins....

yeah..ford chaghed the colors...95-97 where a bluish green

98-current is a dark green like you have.

If it is like the message center displays, there is a glass cover on top of the display, and it is coated with the color that changes the display color. The lens is just smoked. I changed mine to blue by scraping off that coating with a razor blade, and then put a piece of stage light color "gels" over the glass.....and bingo!

I might try and see what it looks like without it on my 98... I would like to change mine from green as well.

my wife misses Florida so much after being in Mass for one winter mind you the 5th greatest snow fall this year!!!
she has her family callign her every day saying wow it is 75 degrees or hey it hit 80 today. well it is now in the low 40's here.
but I do not miss Florida the days of going to work and 6:30 am standing in your shop and having sweat rool down your back already.I will never miss that,
I keep trying to tell her wait another few months while they are at 91 already then you can call them and say wow it is 90 there already well it hit a nice 75 today.
I moved down to Florida because of my mom before she passed. and it is just too damn Hott in the summer. I will take a New England winter any day...

Your right on the change incolors. I changed out my radio trim on my 95 Sport with one from a 98 and found that the lights in the switches were green and the rest of my others were blue.Luckily I was able to change the tiny bulbs. I used my old trim lights!!
I just finished installing an overhead console in my X,.. I got one out of a 96 and the lights match..COOL!!!!
