Changing rear axle - quick question

I have a '00 XLS 2WD 4.0 OHV. It has an open 3.55 (axle code 45) rear axle. I'd like to change it to a 3.73 limited slip. I think I can use any rear axle from a 95-01 Explorer. Is that right? Does it matter if it is out of a 4WD donor or a Explorer Sport?

8.8 ford axle, out of any 95-01 exploder, mountaineer. They are listed as axle code D4.

Yep, as a matter of fact it will. You will have to change the speedo gear.
