Changing the exhaust tips on the ST

You are correct, I got it covered :)

Make sure to post pictures of what you end up doing... lots of us are considering changing out the tips for something else.

I completely agree with every you have said. And just reiterating that this was more then just a turn down tip exhaust issue/remedy. I would venture to guess that 99.999% of guys with 2020 that would entertain the idea of aftermarket straight out tips, would never experience a CO2 cabin infiltration issue. And again... if the turn down tip was the fix, forget anything else they are doing as part of the customer enacted enquiry TSB (note it's not a full scale recall.. yet) how would they avoid "sitting still" infiltration? But as you said, the 2020s design was probably one of many things they did to try and avoid the hauntings of their past... we can only HOPE!
The reason is noted in post #15. No more guess work/speculation required.

Keep in mind the tips are welded on. Replacing would require cutting off, so reinstalling will need a little more work, a slip piece to join back together, or more welding ;)

Hi, does anyone have a suggestion on the best Borla Muffler replacement for the OEM? Just trying to change the outside note

I've been driving explorers on dirt roads for years and every time I get back to the blacktop I have to clean the rear window.
At times the dust is layered on the rear window so thick that it can't be removed with anything less the a garden hose. The wiper and sprayer are useless. It's the body design, not the fancy exhaust tips.

So, in order to avoid "soot buildup," we pump exhaust underneath our vehicles?!?!

*extreme eye roll* Everybody meet back here in 15 years and we'll discuss how idiot this idea was.
This isn't your last century XLT ............ My money is on Ford's engineering dept.

Not liking the chrome tips, I am seriously looking into spraying them with bbq black grill touch up paint. All I need do is have my local muffler shop drop the rear muffler cans, paint the tips, re-install. Done !

Are you riding on a platform mounted to the hitch? Considering where the muffler cans are located and, seeing as how sound travels backward in a moving vehicle, just how are you going to hear it sitting in the driver's seat?
Inquiring minds ............

Also, start driving in the sport mode. You will have an enhanced exhaust sound. That which quite frankly defeats the entire idea of the upgraded B&O system in the ST.

Inquiring minds should just re-read the question

I guess I should clarify, I'm after a more "natural" exhaust note rather than artificial

If you want a more natural exhaust note, have the dealer shut off the sound enhancement. I just had that done. The dealer uses their IDS tool and software. Took all of 10 minutes. I posted about it elsewhere on the board in the mods thread.

No charge btw. Under warranty or goodwill. Not sure which. All I know is Sport mode is so much more enjoyable w/o the artificial exhaust sound enhancement.

On a side note, back in the mid 60's when I began driving, Thrush mufflers were the big thing.:D

Definitely good will which is more the exception and not the rule.

Thank you for the tip, I'll try my local dealership this week see if they can help me. I've had negative results before asking the dealer to alter factory OEM settings

At least it works. Next is the damn double honk. I'm taking the "Spirit of Skunk Hollow" to one of the mega dealers in Arlington, TX for the upholstery splitting issue. I will ask if they can use the IDS tool to shut it off. Also, have them remove the roof rails and seal the mounting holes.

Let us know how you make out at the dealership with the request of turning off the double honk, if you are successful I'd like to use it to push my dealership to do it
Still trying to source out which Borla Muffler would fit and sound good.. Any advice?

IDS not able to shut off the dbl honk. It will not honk if one simply leaves the fob in the vehicle when closing the door with the engine running.

Better yet, don't fully close the door. That is what I always did when jumping out to get my mail from the local curbside mailbox.
BTW, a member had asked their dealer to disable the double honk and was refused. I guess it is considered a 'safety' feature.
