I NEED SOME HELP ON THE FOLLOWING PLEASE.

I WISH TO CHANGE MY HEAD DECK TO AFTERMARKET DOUBLE DIN DVD.

My 2002 explorer has no subwoofer.

The head unit coding -18c815- Premium am/fm/6CD

There is however three seperate plug in the rear of the Head unit + antenner.
1.
(Are there any issues with pre-amps on this model?)
2.
(Is there a harnness avalable to match the FORD connections? I wish to avoid
splicing.
3.
( Also is there antenner adaptor to go from FORD to standard Motorola car radio male plug.

Supplier or Ebay links would be helpfull. Thanks.

Thanks, for the reply,

I have also posted in the Nav/Audio forum with no luck so far.

Good job on you lift by the way.

You may need to sell some down under.

I've been trying to get a shipping quote, just to get an idea for you guys down under.
But for some reason the canada post web site won't take the postal codes I can find online for perth.

WA6837 is one that I tried, but it doesn't like it.

Not sure what you mean. You are removing the factory 18c815 radio right? Are you asking about preamps on the new one?

Get a Ford wiring harness from Crutchfield or somewhere similar: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-98JfbGLukGS/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?i=120701771&s=0&cc=01.

You solder or crimp the bare ends of the wiring harness to the wiring harness that comes with the aftermarket unit. Then you plug the Crutchfield one into the one that is installed in your dash (the one you just unplugged from the factory radio). Since you can unplug the wiring harness from the aftermarket unit, it makes it easy to do the soldering/crimping outside of the vehicle (workbench for instance). BTW, here is a list of car radios from Ford: http://www.oem-auto-accessory.com/factory_ford_radios.html. Click the PDF for the back view. The Crutchfield wiring harness looks like the same plug as the bottom right one on your radio. The other two may be for a steering wheel control and the disc changer.

I'm pretty sure all car radio antennas have the same connector. Hope that helps.:)

This is correct I am removing the 18c815 and before I install the after market DVD I wish to check there is no factory Pre-amp installed on this model X. I have read on some explorer there have been pre-amps making changes to head units a problem.

Thanks for the link I will check it out.

Jcuz

I have sent AERPRO and email, see what they come up with.

Thanks

RoadBull

Try checking the postage to Oz with only using the numbers eg 6837 not (wa6867).

Thanks

well, here is the cheapest method I found, unfortunately that's 4-6 weeks delivery time.

International Parcel Surface (See Canada Postal Guide)
Base Price $72.85
Fuel surcharge $8.20
Coverage $1.20
Total $82.25

after that it goes up to $142 dollars, and then $240

i have been able to add a dvd/nav unit in my dash. It was real easy and i would recommend the wire harness but i did not need any antenna adapter.

Heres a double din in my 04 xlt

Looks good Bardram

I am now part the way through my installation with the head unit. Next item is connecting a revercing camara. Threading the wiring through the rear hatch should be fun.

Thanks for the pics.

I have the back up camera installed as well, but I didnt do it myself, I had in done in a local shop. There was too much involved in this install for me... heres a pic of the camera shot, gotta love it!

Where are you going to mount it? I mounted mine just under the tailgate handle - you can only see it if you squat and look up, but it gives a good view of behind truck. This way is fiddly, but at least it's hidden better. Running the cable is again not that hard, just fiddly and time consuming. All up it took me around 3 hours or so.
