wanna know how to change the u joint or cv joints on my driveshafts

what u joints do i need to replace them what type
as any tips for changing them. thanks

a haynes or chilton does a pretty good job of explaining. So do other threads, I'm sure. And as been discussed MANY times before, the CV-joint is NON-serviceable.. meaning if the CV is bad, ya gotta buy a new shaft,

With the u-joint/ball joint press, it's pretty simple. I want to say that the Spicer 1297 is the u-joint you need (but don't quote me). I do know that Car Quest had the three u-joints I needed for my front driveshaft in stock. Even though they show two different part numbers, they're actually all the same part. Get the u-joints with a zerk fitting. The double cardan joint is kind of a pain. I think there's a distinct order in which to remove/replace the joints but I cannot recall the specific steps. You'll know because some caps won't come out or go in without removing something else.

Hope that was some help - Dave.

Check out the U-joint link in my sig line. It has lots of good info and pics..
