Hey All,

I saw this pic because Kirby N. posted a link to it in another thread.

This seems to be a picture take by AlaskanJack at an Alaska 4x4 GTG.
Alaskan Meet and Greet

Kirby posted saying it was weird.
I actually find it innovative and easy on the wallet for a fender flare solution.

What do ya'll think?

Ok, no answers from Street guys, cuz you just don't understand.

I'm sure I'm not the only one that finds it funny.

There's got to be an easier way to get flares. Tires are a pain in the ass to cut.

I've seen..

Someone use the stuff you line your garden with. You know that black 3in" high border stuff.

I haven't tried it, but I bet a sawzall might do well on a tire. :D

Hartman, no one is listening to you anymore. :shoot:

The whole point of this is, you can buy fender flares from companies like Bushwacker, but they cost like $300+.
That's fine for a poser vehicle, but a real trail rig is gonna damage these over time. To me it's better to have a simple cheap solution like the tire tread of an old used tire. It will be flexable and won't cost an arm and a leg to replace.

For what they will do, I think they are a deal, but I think they look like complete crap.

I like the ones on the other truck though.

I think the cheap rubber floor trim used in industrial situations is the easiest and cheapest way to go. $10 for at least 4 fender flares. And it comes in designer colors!

hmm..not diggin it.

I have never seen that done before now...
I think it looks bad but if it WORKS, I'm all for it..
I think--For a trail rig, doesn't matter how it looks if it works.

and why do you need fender flairs on a trail rig?

If you still drive your rig on the street you may need them because of the law.
Also cuts down on the mud/dirt/sand that can be spewd towards your window.

i will see if i can find the pic, but a friend has taken the flares of a doolie and ford step side sawzawed the flares. alittle tack welding for wounting bolts and boom you have flares.

what's holding the tires on? it appears that if one took a decent hit it would be gone.

and sorry, but i agree with Hartman lol. :D

think about it- those "tire flares" are really really heavy. what's holding them on? i would think they would place alot of stress on the mounting points. i would think that, over time, they would flop around and eventually tear out the screws holding them in. the body skin is like .00000005 thick, it cant take any stress.

Here here.

To be honest, it looks like it would be the equivalent of a civic with wooden spoiler. Sorry. :o

Cheap yes, innovative yes, but kinda fugly!

I think it would look better if you flipped the strips over, having the inside of the tire showing!
