Ok this is on a 96 with the 5.0. CEL comes and goes. Idles a lil rough at start but is fine after it gets goin. Took it to the shop for inspections to get my checklist of things to fix. They pulled 2 codes P0340 (camshaft position sensor cicuit malfunction) and P0401 (egr flow insufficient).

I replaced the camshaft sensor/synchronizer which cleared that code but now i got P0171 (bank 1 too lean). I still have yet to do anything about the P0401 - From what ive gathered on here it is most likely the dpfe and i plan to replace that tomorrow.

Now my question. Are these codes at all related to each other or are they all seperate problems? i.e could P0401(egr insufficient flow) be the cause of the P0171(bank 1 too lean)?

Thanks,
Mike

I dont know if they have anything to do with each other but your code for your egr valve could be caused by the solenoid switch. Its an easy fix. I just replaced the one on my 96.Its only about 15 bucks whereas the egr valve itself is about 115 dollars. Unfortunatley that didnt fix my problem. I hope it isnt the same for yours but my mechanic informed me that he is going to have to take my manifold off and drill out the carbon build up so that the egr can open and shut properly

I had the same problem. It was an egr valve. You need a real short 1/2" ratcheting end wrench to get to the bottom bolt. Other than that, it was easy. I'm average height so it helped a lot for me to stand on the curb to reach it since its on the back of the intake.

I had the same issue on my 01 and it turned out to be th eO2 sensor. I replaced them all and no issues so far.
