Check engine light

Driving the '02 XLS Explorer for a 35 minute trip and the check engine light flashes on and off for about five minutes and the heat temp gauge fluctuated also, from normal range to the H, near the hot zone. This started about half way in the trip and then it just stopped . There was no smoke or steam that I could see. Any ideas or thoughts are appreciated.

I had a similar thing happen, turned out there was air in the system. I bled the air and no problem since.

You need to pull the codes. If the light came on, there will be one. Even if the light is off now. May be under 'pending.'
