Check engine lite

I have a 98 Explorer that I recently replaced plugs on.In the process I tore a plug wire.Dummy me I put silicone on it & wrapped it up thinking that would do it.It didn't.The wire started shorting out making it run sloppy under load & the check engine lite came on .Now ,how do I get it to go off?Do I just take the battery cables off?
Just need a little help...Thanks

You can reset the CEL with an OBD II scanner.

you can also do that by unpluging the battery for 10 mins
