I have a 2005 Ford Explorer, at first it was the check gas cap light coming on. I replaced that at least 3 times and had the dealership reset the code each time.
Then I started having trouble putting gas in it but it was inconsistant and I thought it was just the different gas stations. This went on for at least 6 months but no codes and again, only had a problem at certain gas stations.

About a month ago it started shutting off every 10 seconds while I was trying to fill it up and/or gas would start to come back out while it was occurring. I took it to the dealership and they said there are two known problems, mine was the filler neck and it would have to be replaced. Since it has not been flagged a safety issue they would not repair for free but offered to only charge me 1/2 price. I can't express my gratitude for their generous offer.........

Anyone having this problem needs to contact National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and file a complaint. They have received 20 complaints on my year and model to date. Once they receive enought complaints their engineers will research the trend and make Ford recall the vehicles or reimburse those who have had to make the repairs.

Honestly that is pretty generous it's not there fault it's fords they are willing to help you by charging half price sounds like a good dealership.

You misunderstood BigV, it's Ford Motor that is offering to pay half. Ford has a system for defects that have not been verified as safety related. They basically rate you based on the number of Ford vehicles you have purchased. I have own a mustang within the past 10 years which is why Ford Motor offered to reimburse the dealer for half.

The service manager was married to my sister in law...............I have no doubts he did all he could to assist me with getting Ford to step up and take care of this. My mechanic said he just repaired the same issue on a Ford truck last week and I won't even bore you with all of the issues I had with factory defects and the mustang.

It's unfortunate, we like our Explorer, we're just not happy about the way Ford handles factory defects. Don't get me wrong, I've had factory defect issues with Chevy but although they didn't recall the vehicle due to the issues, they did not charge me to repair it when I took it in. It was almost a don't ask don't tell but if you asked then they told.

Yes I did miss understand thought it was the dealership making the offer. In this case it's BS if ford is willing to pay half then theyare admitting there is a problem and should step up and fix it,
