check gauge light with fill up

ok so i fill up my car and for some reason after i do every time i step on the gas the check gauge light comes on and when i let off it goes away. now this only happens untill i burn a bit of gas...... usually. But this time after a few miles of driving i accelerated and watched my gas gauge go down to 3/4 and slowly go back up to about 7/8 and stayed there. can anyone help me out with what it might be? do i need a new fuel filter or mabe i can put in some fuel system cleaner? or do i need a full injector cleaner? im a bit lost to the exact solution to my problem and any help would be appreciated.

If I had to guess, and this is a guess, it sounds like the sending unit on the fuel pump. For what those pumps cost and the hassle to change it in a 98, personally I would live with it. If it craps out all together and your fuel gauge goes out then it may be replacement time.
