Check out my '01 Guages

Robert, that was a great post, my brain hurts from reading that! ;) lol

espnfreak, let me informed. I was considering doing that last year but never got around to it. How much and where did you get the pod from? I spoke to ford and was almost ready to do it.

Thanks,
-Willie

Ok, me and my dad pulled both sensors, and idled it, and the temp went far past the hot point, like over onto the tach. So im completely stumped as to what is going on, someone must know. i am tempted to go to ford, but i know they'll be *****y and itll be pricy. its still runnin hot. thats the main problem im havin. i took off the left and right temp coolant sensors to see if i would stay at 0, but with both off it went way up, and with 1 off i think it stayed in the middle.

I was also thinking of pulling the needle and adjusting it... Any comments would be appreciated. thanks!

Maybe this would help, but noting the pic, it wasnt all the way down when i got the guages, would that make a difference in cutting the temp to about medium reading? I mean it goes to 0 when the engine is off, but once turned on it shoots way up. i dont know what to do, and i think maybe any other swaps will run into the same problems. the guy who did this with his 97 ranger never had any problems like this, so i think something is different. and as for calculating the speedo and odo, that should be easier than this

These are gauges that are in '01 explorers?

looks cool. i hope you get everything figured out.

if you dont want to go to the ford dealership, why not just go to a regular mechanic?

How are the connectiontions made at the back of the pod? Any chance you might have bent a pin on your harness or the back of the pod? You said that the temperature shoots way up when you turn the key on without starting it. Is this with a cold engine that hasn't been ran for several hours? If so, then at least you know that it isn't a temperature issue but rather an electrical issue. I'm not sure what type of device Ford uses for their temperature sender, but I do know that some will read at maximum scale while others will read at minimum scale when it is disconnected. I doubt if repositioning the needle will do anything other than put your needle in the right place. Your computer will still think that your temperature gauge is way too high so it will still set your check gage light. It has no way of knowing that you removed the needle and put it back on in a different location. I wonder if putting a resistor in line with the signal to your guage will work? Something similar to doing the conversion of the oil pressure dummy gauge to the manual gauge. Do a search for that thread if you don't know what I am talking about. If you hit on the right resistance in line to the signal going to the guage it might work. Start by temporarily wiring up a variable resistor in series with the signal wire. Adjust the resistor until the needle is where you would expect it to be. Maybe do it when your engine is up to operating temperature and then adjust it so your needle rests in the middle of the range. Once the variable resistor is set properly, measure the resistance and substitute it for a fixed value of similar resistance. By the time I am finished with you, you will have lots of experience removing your gauge pod :)

LOL robert. it goes to the top after it warms up for awhile. i still think it has to be an electrical problem because it never did this before
here are 2 pics, im not sure which one i need to do anything with

Got the new sensor installed yesterday, after i got the connector to hook up to one of the 2 connectors.. It took about 1 hr, and it was a breeze. Now i just gotta get my speedo calibrated and my guages will be done. Overall, it was a pretty easy install, with a few annoying glitches. But if any of you guys decide to try it on the earlier models, at least you will know that you need a new sensor.:)

we still haven't seen a pic of em in the dash you know ;)

glad it worked out for ya btw, do you suppose the differences were because of the engine? or the electronics?

Which sensor did you have to change?
Am thinking of doing something like this.
Really like the look...
Thanks,

We went to see em installed!!!
