About every other day I get an error on my dash that says "check rear sensors" when I'm reversing. Once this happens, I no longer hear the "beeps" when my car is approaching an object. It usually fixes itself by the next time I drive the vehicle but turning the car off, opening the door, and trying it again immediately usually doesn't fix it. This is a brand new car, I've had it for 2 weeks now. I brought it to the dealer and of course the problem didn't show itself while they had it (but came back 2 minutes after the dealership closed). My plan is to hightail it there next time it's happening but ironically it always occurs when I'm either no where near the dealership or after they've closed. There is nothing blocking the sensors from what I can tell. Has anyone experienced this before and come up with a solution?

I've had this happen from rain drops and snow/ice build up. Next time, snap a picture of the fault warning with your smart phone. Show to dealership.

Yea I did that. The guy glanced at it briefly and told me he'd have to see it in person.

You have to be kidding me. What's wrong with these dealerships? You would think when warnings like this are activated they would be able to hook up to their diagnostic equipment, see that it has been triggered and be given a reason why.

Regardless, what do they think - people are just making this stuff up and are stealing pics of it from the internet just to take time out of their busy days to pull the dealership's leg? Give me a break.

Yea, it kind of shocked me too but what he told me was he couldn't diagnose the problem unless it was happening there at the time. What's even more upsetting is I brought it in there the week before while the problem was happening and was told that they didn't have time to look into by another guy. I got him to agree to drop everything he's doing if I bring my car in again while it's showing this error. The last thing I want is a phantom electrical issue haunting me for the rest of the time I have this car.

I think it may be more of a problem with the actual sensors. As a test, I just went out and put 'post it notes' over the sensors on my MKT. When I started up and put it in Reverse all I got was a steady beep tone and the area closest to the vehicle was shown in RED. There was no message advising to check the sensors.

EDIT: Have you checked and confirmed that your Rear Parking Aid is still set to ON?

I want to look into this further, jarettp. PM me your full name, best daytime phone number, VIN, current mileage, and preferred servicing dealership. I'll research some ways to help.

Peter, when the error comes up it unchecks the rear parking aid setting and doesn't allow me to recheck it until the problem goes away.

Here's what the error looks like for anyone that's interested. (disregard the speedometer :D)

I would think that there is likely something amiss with the system and that this isn't being caused by anything blocking the sensors. The only thing I could suggest is perhaps disconnecting the neg battery cable for 5 - 10 minutes and then reconnect to see if that might cure it. Your transmission will have to 'relearn' its shift points as well the idle and trim will have to be relearned but you don't have that many miles on it yet anyway. It's up to you if want to try this or you can just wait until your dealer has a look at it. Good luck.

The dealer did give that a try. Ironically I haven't had the ambient lighting reset since they did that but the rear sensor problem came back immediately. I'll keep you all updated with what comes from this.

Actually, the speedometer says it all. How could you being going in reverse with the rear parking sensor warning when you are going forward over 25 mph?

Proves it is a problem with the vehicle that should have been looked at when you brought your Ex in, but it seems they are on it now. This forum has some influence  ;)

Lol the warning doesn't go away until you clear it. I kept it on the screen until I got to the dealer.
