I have been looking at this muffler for a while and I love the sound, anyone on here have it? Since my 99 mounty has dual exhaust to the stock muffler and a single pipe out, I was thinking that I could use a Y-pipe type deal to go from the piped into a single in single out muffler. Also, I want to know if anyone has cut the two rear cats off and had any problems or improvements. Also (last thing) what size exhaust pipes do I have? I cant find my calipers anywhere, or an answer on the internet.

thanks for any help,

I have dual Thrust glass packs on my 97 Explorer. It currently dumps out right in front of the axle. Pipes should be 2.25. That is what mine are on my 4.0 v6

i ghetto made a Y pipe off the cats and welded a 2.5'' glasspack on the out end. it ends out right before the rear diff under the car i have a turndown tip so it all goes to the ground. sounded good at first but i did a **** job on the Y pipes and connections and now it sounds like crap. i wanna make a custom dual exhaust using an X pipe off the cats to equal out the flow then into 2 flowmaster 44's and then run along side eachother over the axle and the using right angle bent piping bring the other tip out the rear on the driver side and match it on the passenger. deffinataly gonna take a lot of time to get it all just the way i want it and the moneys not there to put into it right now but ill make an informative thread on it when i get around to startig this project

I had the dual extremes on my x with the 4.0 sohc... Sayin it was loud is an understatement lol. Id be heard from blocks away lol, was pulled over multiple times and recieved a couple loud exhaust tickets, and had one of those cops tell me that was probably the loudest truck hes heard lol. Just something to keep on mind haha
And yeah the exhaust pipe should be 2.25"

Btw, if you have a 5.0 you might be able to get away with the loudness since cops dont seem to mind loud V8s much lol

I think this is a fairly accurate statement. I never see guys with loud V8's (pony cars, SUVs, Pickups, etc.) get hassled by the 5-0, just dumbies with fart cans on their crappy little B18's.

So just as an input what do you all think about my idea for my set up making dual system but using an X pipe between the cats and mufflers. Would this make a cleaner sound? And would there be some nice performance because it would be retaining some of the backpressure for my v6

If the exhaust pipes are gonna be spread out, if your running glasspacks or something similar, or if the mufflers themselves will be where the spare tire is, it should work fine. When i had the dual extremes, i had to mount em sideways so they would fit, which left em hanging down by the leaf spring perch... The perfect spot to get caught on everything and get ruined lol
Otherwise, id just run a single dual in muffler and have it either single or dual exit
