my passenger rear door will not open from inside, i tried the child lock and flipped the switch up and down and makes no difference. the inside handle has resistances i dont think nothing has comes undone. any ideas on what it could be. if not looks like i gonna be buying a new latch assembly

i have a 93 x that had the same problem and it ended up being the handle. i just went to the junk yard and picked up some working ones and it works fine now :D

If it opens from the outside but not inside, the inner handle rod that attaches to the door latch is either missing or broken off or the actual handle has broke. Its a common issue with 2nd gens. Open the door, take the cover off the door and inspect.

Crappy inside door handles. I have replaced one and need to replace the other. After they are yanked on too hard a few times the rod hole (no pun intended) becomes somewhat stretched or elongated ...............

Could it be the child lock ?sometimes they get stuck ? wd40 or graphite ?

^ 2012 post. Don't wait for a reply from Steve (ncranchero) Great moderator though, and still drops in on occasion.

That said, Explorer inner door handles are notorious for stripped nylon gears and failures although cleaning and lubing latches, locks, and hinges should be considered preventative maintenance.

Personally, I prefer Super Lube PTFE synthetic grease on almost everything that requires light grease. It's good enough for Snap-On to use in their crazy expensive ratchets and supply with their ratchet rebuild kits. A three ounce tube for around $5 lasts a long time. Good for dielectric use too.

my issue turned out to be the door hardware itself , the plastic sprockets wear down over time .... can still open from the outside

^ Plastic "sprockets" meaning gears, right? LOL
