A question for the programers at this site

Just a random thought poped into my mind this evening.

That slot where you put a performance chip in the ECM.
What is that there for any way ?
Did Ford put it there in anticipation that we would want to manipulate the programs in the ECM ?
Is it actually designed to have a chip there ?

I wondered the same thing last week when I was putting my chip back in.

Yebbut, I got Diamond Cuts all around now to counter those wheels of yours. OK, I'd take the wheels too.

This is actually refered to as the J3 port. This is where the factory programs the PCM's for the specific vehicles and then they place the sticker on the top of the connector.

Thanks, Doug.
