Hello All,

I would like to install a "Remote Starter w/ remote locks" on my 1993 XLT Automatic Trans, power locks with 4X4. I plan on installing it myself. I am looking for recommendations for a reliable and easy to install unit. Does anyone make a "plug and play" unit? Will the stock OEM starter be OK? I am not looking for the most expensive unit; but I want a good unit.

Thanks for your help.

Sincerely,

Mike Petersen

stock OEM starter will work.
I have never installed one but it should be pretty easy, you just tap into the Park indicator wire, the starter relay wire (from keyswitch ) and the door lock wires (at fuse box)

Should be straight forward. Not sure what the difference in brands are.......

I had Viper 550's in 3 different cars. Never a problem with them. I had a alarm shop install them. They were in the $450 range with install. DEI pretty much owns most alarm brands. I wouldn't cheap out on it by getting one of those $50 no name Ebay specials.

I have a "manik" remote start with pager in my XL. Installed it myself (took like a day). The manual that came with it was written is shytti english but I found a better one online (still have it). It's been working perfectly fine for a year. Sucks you can't get tech support, but oh well. Gte what you pay for. Was about $150 on ebay. But like I said its been working fine.

I've got a bulldog on on my '91. It was a pain to install, but '92 and up have a simple plug in t-harness that shouldn't take long at all to install. All you have to do is remove the panel from under the steering column, remove to two large bolts to lower the column, and the harness is right there on top. The you tap in to the wires for the door locks in the drivers kick panel.

The system costs a little over $100, not exactly sure because mine was a gift.

Ford has offerred remote start/keyless entry as a dealer installed option for a long time. Some of the older units are being sold NIB on eBay. I bought one for $50 about a year ago, but recently they go for $80-$100. The nice thing is that they are really well built and you get an OEM-style ford keyfob.

You can purchase the Bulldog t-harness and use it to install a remote start system from any manufacturer.

Go to the12volt.com for free wire charts that tell you what wire colors to connect the various things to.

Thank you LBarr2002 and Brock94 for you suggestions!
