I bought the X with a few scratches. As of now I don't have the flow for a new paint job. However, I do have a small 1 inch scratch that is pretty much down to metal. I can see that there is also some oxidatiiion starting and I don't want it to eat up the metal under the paint. So what should I do?

This link is a very thorough guide. http://www.bettercarcare.com/articles.php?articleId=27
If you don't have that much time, or its not important to get it looking completely perfect, all you need is touch-up paint and something abrasive to clean the bare metal.

The best advice I can give is to do the repair in coats and not all at once.

Drummer, Thanks for the article. Very Informative. What do you mean about coats? What about the rust? Should I oversand the area surrounding the scratch?

For sanding, oversand the edges just ever so slightly. This should take care of the rust. The coats I was refering to were the coats of touch-up paint. Use something small like a toothpick to apply the touch-up paint instead of the brush that comes in the bottle.

Gotcha. I'll give it a shot.
