Clank noise from under truck

I have a 97 Mountie and whenever I shift from park to reverse or drive i hear a set of clanks coming from where the transfer case and u joint are. What would cause the noise? How do I figure out which part it is?

I've read slip yoke noise occurs after braking.
Sounds more like a symptom of a bad u-joint.

Well it probably not the yoke. It only makes the series of clunks right after I put it into gear. It's like 3 clunks and only happens when I put it into gear. It only occurs when I put it into drive or reverse.
