I found some spots on my explorer that looked like rust spots, but i could scratch them off with my finger nail. Anyway, i have decided to clay bar my 98' this weekend. Are there any tips or hints you all could give me that would help?

In a spray bottle add water and about a teaspoon of dishsoap, use that as your claybar lube, no need for anything else.
Do a section at a time,Rinse. Keep a bucket of warm water handy if its cold outside to keep the claybar soft so you can knead it.
Do not drop it on the ground, it will be history if it picks up any grit, rewax and your good to go

Thanks alot, sounds like its alot easier than i had originally thought.

Make sure the truck is clean before you bar,I clayed the wifes black beemer, the Kids black Eclipise, waxed both, took all weekend, complete detail on both.
Than it poured down rain for two days

It's still a bit of work!!! But worth it! Just keep the surface wet. You can actually feel and hear the paint....'smooth out' as the dirt comes off. An' like spindle suggested, use dish soap and water for your lubricant . Dont waste polish or wax that you are going to wash right back off with the clay residue when your done. Also like he said, wash it thoroughly B4 starting, dont want to rub grit all over your paint. I suggest after you wash, clay bar, wash again and dry, that you do a good polish job, then protect everything you've done with a good quality (plain carnuba, my choice) wax.
