I waxed my '06 over the weekend, and while the paint is slick (from the wax) it is rough to the touch. It appears to be time for clay.

My question is, will the clay treatment remove the wax I just put on? I assume it will, but thought I would ask...

Yes the clay bar will remove everything... so a re-wax afterwords is a necessity

If you clay bar it wash it with dish detergent first to remove the wax and make the clay bar more effective since it won't have to remove the wax itself.

Yep, Briway is correct- use some Dawn dish soap to wash first, then clay after you wash. Right after that you can hit it with another quick Dawn wash and wax from there. Moving into summer, a couple of coats of Meguiars NXT 2.0 is a nice polymer wax that will do a nice job for you. If you have some scuffs, use some ScratchX 2.0 before waxing and she'll look awesome!

Good luck with her!

Thanks for input/suggestions.

No scuffs on this truck - I try to keep it pretty and take the other one off-road!

Meguiars NXT 2.0 - how does that compare to Meguiars Hi-Tech Yellow wax (Number 26)?

It isn't a carnauba based wax, sand over the years I've used both. My impressions- shine is about the same, but the NXT will last longer and will 'sheet' water off vs. beading, and the NXT liquid is a lot less work to put on and take off.

The #26 is an excellent product though, if you don't mind waxing your truck more often.

For some product comparisons, you might read over on the Meguiars forum too, lots of killer knowledge over there as well.

I would agree to you that the #26 is a very good product. I use it and it's working good for me, though I have to repeat the process over a repeated period of time I found it better and quite efficient in terms of usage.

I've used #26 quite a bit over the years. I like the results it gives, and usually goes on very quick (after spending hours "cleaning" the paint.)

I might try the NXT 2.0 once I empty the bottle #26 that I have (that stuff is too expensive to throw away!)

Oh yeah- the old #26 paste was like gold... Last summer there was a mad rush of Megs fans buying cans of it from a seller in Canada that managed to locate a few cases someplace... :)

I think the old chemicals in it prevented it from legally being sold anymore or something...
