Clear Tail Lights

I am looking for a set of 98-01 clear tail lights. Notice I mean clear and not altezza. THey like all other clear tail lights are illegal and this particular set is becoming impossible to find for me. I was wondering if anyone had a set for sale or knows of anywhere I could look to purchase a set. I have looked everywhere!

they have been discontinued by every manufacturer out there. the only way you will be able to find one is ebay, from a private seller.

i dont know of the legality issues, but i do believe it has to do something with the red deflectors that all tailights have. red is the universal signal of stopping, and well if people just put in clears without red lightbulbs or leds, itz dangerous.

nothing here was mentioned of legality, so i couldnt help you, but im sure if you ask yoru local authorities, they could give you better info

its not so much that they are illegal, they are just not DOT approved. you could run red bulbs and never get pulled over, or get pulled over alot.

BTW- you will only find them from a private seller. there are several sites that still list them, but dont even bother. no one has any.

The best way to find these nowadays is to search for "explorer clear" on eBay...I got mine for like $100 about 2 months ago. I also got a set of Jamstrait HyperRed LED's to use for brake lights. Since then I've gotten pulled over twice for different things, and neither cop has said a word about the taillights, which I attribute to the LED's.

they're illegal cos in most cases when you put them on, you devoid the back of your car of red reflectors which scares old ladies into thinking you're coming at them.. which makes me wonder why they're still driving but...........

at any rate, what they've said is right.. no one makes them anymore and I do not beleive X clears ever sold that well to begin with.. especially the 98-01s but they are out there.. ebay this board and any other X related sight searches MIGHT yeild a pair for you. good luck.

I have a set of 95-97s on mine but I think james wants those if/when I get those altezzas.. I dont really like the new altezzas for the 95-97 but I'll have nopi bring some in and I'll take a look at em in person whenever they get in stock. on 1 hand I have the nice clean look of clears... on the other hand I half my risk of being rearended by people who DONT PAY ATTENTION WHEN THEY DRIVE.. desicions desicions
