clearcoat chipping.

i have a pretty decent size part of my fender where the clearcoat chipped how should I fix it? can I just re-spray some clearcoat on it, then maybe wetsand it?

is it original paint, or has it been repainted? years back (and i don't know if they still are having problems with them) ford had a big problem with certain colors of paint. if it is original, i would strip it down to metal, and start from scratch. if it has been painted before, you should be able to sand it, and repaint it, and i don't mean just clear coat, you would need to put sealer, then base, then clear.
