Click/clunk on manual 4406 after lifting off the throttle

My manual 4406 seems to be developing an interesting characteristic.

When I let off the throttle, sometimes it will click, sometimes it will clunk. If I hold the shifter I can feel a solid click/clunk to go with the noise.

It seems to do it in 2WD and 4WD. I pulled the front D shaft and it still clicks/clunks (I was thinking maybe a front u-joint).

Any ideas? Maybe a bad bearing somewhere that is causing some drag on a shaft (and the change from power to coast causes an audible clunk)?

Mine does the same thing- I haven't worried about it. It only does it under certain conditions. Like if I am at highway speed, goose the throttle then let off, I get a clunk.

Yeah, I can sometimes make it happen by quickly letting off the throttle. Vice versa, if I gently glide off the throttle it won't happen.

Wierd - What do you think would be causing this? My t-case is pretty low mileage

Obviously Ford wouldn't let something like this go into production on an F-150. I was first thinking it was maybe caused by having a non-vacuum disco'd front end (maybe the F-150's don't spin the d-shaft) but I pulled the front d-shaft and it still does it AND you have a vacuum disco and it does it.

Whats different about our setup and the F-150 setup?

I was wondering if the close proximity of the shifter to the body allows for more noise transfer?

And, I am not sure if it still makes the noise, I haven't paid attention since the swap. I will check that out tomorrow.
 


















ANy body ever come up with a conclusion to this noise? Mine dose the same thing.
 






sounds like it could be a broken transmission mount but i could be wrong, also could be different mounts
