Question on my automatic climate control on my Mountaineer. Is there a way a can disable the automatic feature, and manually select when my AC is on and when it is off? The problem is this: When I select automatic, it determines whether to turn the AC on or not, and also decides where the air comes out. Lower temp setting it comes out in the vent, higher settings it directs it to the floor. I don't want the car to decide where I want air blowing. I want to decide. I would like to be able to tell the car to have air come out the vents, with either heat or AC if I want. This is how all other cars work. Even cars with temperature control. Almost wish my Mountaineer did not have the climate control option, as you really can't control where the air comes out.
Second, what is the blend door problem. If I have AC on, there is always some amount of air going to my feet on drivers side, and my feet get cold while driving.
Thanks,
Harold

You can override the automatic function by pressing buttons on there. You can manually control fan speed, vent modes, and temperature. Unfortuantely, you cannot control the A/C because the compressor works at all levels but "Vent" mode, this also applies to manual A/C systems too.

My Acura can do all the stuff you described manually though. :p It also has recirc and fresh air buttons. For our trucks, in order to get into recirc mode, you must put it in Max A/C. :D

Thanks for feedback Billy,
I know you can override the functions described. However when I select AC I would like to be able to choose to stay on air coming out the vents. But the crazy climate control puts the air where it wants. Probably no way to do what I want.

Well, all you have to do is to select what position you want the air coming out of the vents. The buttons are the bottom row of buttons on the controller.

Automatic: The system decides which airflow is the best
Max A/C: recirc mode with air going through the panel vents
Vent: Non-air-conditioned air through panel vents
PNL/FLR: Air-conditioned air through panel and floor vents and a very little bit of air through the defroster
Floor: Air-conditioned air through the floor and a little bit through the defroster
FLR/DEF: Air-conditioned air through the floor and defroster
Defrost: Air-conditioned air through the defroster and a little bit through the floor.

I hope this answers your question.

Your description is correct. That is actually what I wish I could change. That is when I want AC on, to force it to come out the vent as a choice. But it is not a choice, except in max ac.
Normally (most cars) AC is used to direct out vents to your face, chest, etc, but seldom do you want AC on your feet. Also top of vehicle is always hotter, as heat rises.
In the south, with high humidity, lots of rain, you usually don't use max AC as this causes windows to fog up. So if I want dehumidified air, I don't have a selection that lets me control the temperature at the same time I select the vent only. The automatic wants to direct it where it chooses, that may be the vent outlets, it may be the floor, or it may be a combination.
Maybe I can come up with a way to overide the automatic feature and turn on AC independently, like most European and Japanese cars.
