2007 sport trac 2wd... hearing noise in the rear... thought it might be shocks? But the noise is not consistent... doesn't happen every time left side or right side hits a bump... emptied everything out of the storage compartments in the box.... still not sure what is making the noise??? any ideas on what else to check? Has not been in any accidents and have not hit any curbs or large pot holes??? I am at a loss as to what it might be...

I would say that it's probably only happening when the rear axle is fully compressed. When that happens, it hits "bump stops" that keep the shocks from compressing any more. I have this issue with my Ranger, especially when I pull into a parking lot or driveway. Unless you know that the shocks are completely worn out, I wouldn't worry about it.

Check your tail pipe for movement. Just climb under and move it around by hand.

Some times the factory install is a little to close to something and under certain conditions it bangs on something usually a shock.

But unless one of the rubber mounts is broke it's nothing to be worry'n about.

Right, and all that too!

Also zeke on my 94 the factory class III hitch, Made by Curry. was getting hit by the spring shackles at full comp on sudden dips. But just barely and not on every hit.
Mostly due to age sag. Warrior shackles to the rescue! Long travel shackles get it plenty fare away from the class III
