ok i must sound like an idiot but when i am in 4X4 and i turn the wheel to far (or what i guess is to far) i hear a clunking sound not really a grinding but maybe a slight grinding but the sound is nasty and i real a reaction in the wheel.....any clue....i have a feeling it is something to do with 4X4 on semi dry terrain cause part of the streets around me are paved the others are snow covered i mean could that really be in....

Well when you are in 4x4 you will get that noise on dry surfaces when turning. It seems a bit startling at first but its just the tires gripping. Don't worry about it unless its there when you're not in 4x4.

thanks a lot....that makes alot of sense now that i think of it....

mine was doing that the i put new bearings in and it stoped

don't run 4x4 on dry pavement , or if you do don't turn very sharp. it's hard as hell on your u-joints, axles, hubs, driveshaft ,when it make that noise.

i might start my own tread for this but here goes,

i had a clunking in the front end last night. it seemed to be in the driver side.

I wasn't in 4x4
It started when I made a sharp left turn, i was going *maybe* 20 kilometers an hour

it was a clunk that went with the wheel spin, after i straightened out after the turn it was still there, till i came to a stop after about 70 feet. got out, looked underneath, couldn't see anything.

could not for the life of me re create the sound on the way home and i tried *everything*

U-joint? Loose brake pad/caliper? Rock in tire tread??
