Getting ready to tackle the clutch and clutch slave cylinder in my 97 explorer sport. any words of wisdom from those who have done this before. Items i must have, amount of transmission fluid needed to replace after I've drained it, any absolutely do not or absolutely do instructions? thanks in advance for you're help.

Get a long extension bar -- 2 to 3 feet -- with a 13mm swivel socket. That makes it pretty easy to get to the upper bell housing bolts. Beg, borrow, or rent a transmission jack -- it isn't worth screwing up your back. Drop the exhaust first, it's in the way. If you can get the exhaust bolts and the starter bolts out, the rest is pretty straightforward. Swap out the rubber caps over the shift rails for freeze plugs (dorman 555-108).

Get a Ford slave, don't get one from a parts store.

If you haven't already, search here and read up on the procedure. There's at least two decent threads on it that I used when I did my clutch years ago. Also read up on bleeding the clutch, it can be a real ***** to do well.
