my clutch slave cylinder went out this last sunday i spent all day monday and tuesday replacing it, i tired to bleed it good before i put it all back together but i guess i did not bleed it to well, because it is still haveing problems going into gears i have to push harder then you normaly have to, to put it in gear. also the store had told me to put "gear oil"? (because they could not find what fluid it needed in there computer and i wasnt sure myself and then when i drained it i noticed it was red so i figured id just put it in because i dont have any other vehicle right now and i just need it running) in my transmission i am going to put mercon V tomorow when i wake up before i go to work, would the gear oil have any effect on the shifting?

i have tried bleeding it a few times since then but it didnt make a realy big difference, ill have my wife pump it till it gets pressure and then open the bleeder valve, and it seemed liked it was bleed but maybe im doing something wrong, i did this while the vehicle was started, im thinking im gona spend the $40 and have somebody do it but please somebody tell me how to do it right so i can save my money.

thanks

It should be brake fluid in there. I'm no expert, but I would bleed several reservour's worth of brake fluid through there to try and flush out the gear oil.

Also, do a search here for bleed clutch, or similar terms, and you should get lots of info on it. It can be a ***** to bleed properly, but read up and your chances will go up.

The tranny fluid is straight up Mercon ATF, NOT Mercon V, there is shift quality issues using Mercon V in the older trannys.

My God. They had you put gear oil in it??? Remove the clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder and take them to the "store" for replacement. Their screw up...might as well start with new parts. Who knows what that gear oil will do to the seals, etc in the system. As Ranger said, flush the crap out of the line...or just replace it too. Then find a new place to get your parts from...

Read it again and don't pay attention to the stuff in the (...). He put gear oil in his tranny.

Hmm, I think you're right.

Confusion results from changing subjects in the same paragraph.

ok, ok, ok, maybe i did not clarify myself properly the gear oil was put in the tranny.

i have DOT3 brake fluid in the resivore i know better then to put gear oil in the resivore.

as for merconV i already have bought it and gona drain and fill it with that because thats all they had in stock was merconV at the time

Whew! My Bad.

HOWEVER! I still say the parts guy is about a half sandwich short of a picnic. :D Very bad move to recommend a fluid without knowing for sure. He could have caused some very expensive problems.
