clutch bleeder screw (what's it look like)

So I got the little Mityvac to help me along, only to find out that it looks like my bleeder screw is broken. It just looks like a bolt head with a hole in it, there is no nipple or anything to slide the hose onto.

So what does it suppose to look like? Any pics?

And is this bleeder screw replaceable, or is it made into the slave cylinder? I didn't want to try to find out, only to make my problems worse.

The screw comes out of the cylinder. There should be a nipple where you can put the hose on. I know I have some laying around but I don't know where. The bleeder is interchangable with brake caliper/wheel cylinders I think.

maybe the mechanic that the previous owner had put in the new clutch and slave screwed something up, but I don;t see anything that looks like a brake bleeder screw. All I see is a shaft sticking out of the bellhousing about a 1/4" with a hex on the end and a hole in the end. Put my finger in the access hole and it just felt like a round tube with some type of rubber sleeve on it. It appears like the hex is made into the tube and the hole isn;t threaded or never had a bleeder threaded into it.

Thats what mine looks like. I just opened the screw, let it bleed for a while (make sure to fill master cylinder...don't let it run dry!). Then, close the screw. Push the clutch slowly and hold. Have someone else open the screw to release more fluid/air. Do this until there is no air coming out.

do you just let it squirt all over everything?

I would like to use a vacuum bleeder on it, but there is no nipple for the hose. huh.

let it squirt? anyone?

would really like to use the vacuum bleeder.....

This is i think it should look like:

And I believe you could thread in a brake bleeder fitting:

Good luck dude:)

Try not to let it squirt all over everything. If I were you I would replace it with one of those self bleeding ones. They are inexpensive and I am sure they are well worth it.

thanks for the pics..

Whats the difference? The second just looks like the rubber cap is pushed back. Is that two different bleeder valves?

mine doesn't look like that. mine is just flush at the end of the hex, like the nipple was cut off. I suppose I can put in a new one. I'm just afraid I may make it worse, maybe I'll open it and not be able to get it out.

Yeah, they are the same the second one just shows that the bleeder screws into the slave cylinder.

Cool, Thanks

Hope it worked for you. I just got a replacement tranny for my 94 and noticed the same thing. Bleeder had no nipple - just a hole. I swaped the whole slave with the one out of my truck though... looked newer anyway.
Good luck

Gotta get a new bleeder screw,

Dre, is that bleeder screw replaceable on that other slave? Is it removable? I don;t want to replace the whole slave just to get a bleeder with a nipple.

I'll check when I get home... didn't really look at it but as soon as I noticed something wasn't right I swapped slaves...

any luck with that tranny. I just read your exhaust problems. I was looking at that last time I was under my truck. Looks like fun.

real fun playing with tools under your truck... I totally forgot to look at it when I got home..... very late last night. If I remember (I'll probably put a sticky on my forehead) I'll check it tonight...

bump, have a chance to look at that screw

no can do. I don't think you can raplace it with anything else. It's one piece - about 2" long. Seems that you just unscrew it and let the fuid squirt all over...

shocks!

Yeah, I just let it squirt all over. Believe me, I wasn't hurting much by doing so. The truck has 253k miles. Nuff said. :)

That sucks. I really wanted to use one of those vacuum bleeders. I guess I'll just have to do the best I can.
