I am hoping it is just the clutch but I am not sure how to tell the difference. I heard a little pop and then the ex just stopped going forward. I have no reverse or any gears in any direction. I dont have to put in the clutch to put it into gear too. You can smell a bad burnt smell. So I was thinking the clutch burnt out. Before the clutch was hard to push in to shift, now it is easy. So do you think it may be the clutch or the tranny? I am going to get a new clutch today and replace it today or tomorrow.

The very same thing happened to me 3 mos ago. It turned out that the transfer case locked up and the resulting pop was when the output shaft snapped. :(

What did you do to get it fixed? Is it something that can be done by myself? Thanks.

Oh and one other thing I failed to mention. Before it stopped working, it was very slow to accelerate and the rpm jumped way up if I accelerated too much to get it to go, even at high speeds. I am thinking the tranny went out. :(

$250 for a t-case and output shaft from junkyard $250 to have transmission disassembled and inspected (nothing wrong) big sigh of relief & $150 to have t-case and tranny removed and put back on. You could do it yourself I suppose if you know what your doing. I had the t-case and tranny removed and put back in by a buddy at home and took it to a transmission shop. I just put the back tires up on concrete blocks and he crawled under and took both pieces off, only took him about an hour and a half. There is a couple of pics on my web site.

Just got off phone with auto mechanic to get a quote on checking out the tranny, etc. After I told him what had happened, he said it was definately the clutch. He gave me a labor quote of 400, part from napa is 200. I am going to try and do it myself. :)
