I was thinking of purchasing the 93 Cobra Intake maifold. Anyone have any ideas if this will work and if I would gain power? It seems to flow better.

I am adding the MAC CAI and Exhaust and the torque monster headers.

Anyone know how much power that would add?

Anyone know if the Cobra Intake manifold will fit the EX? 5.0 of course.

The upper intake you have now flows equal (or even better) than the Cobra intake. Do not waste money on swapping them.

With intake and headers you'll probably gain 20 rwhp or so.

yeah, the explorer intake manifold on the 5.0 is the same if not better than the Cobra's, like section said. I think there are actually quite a few mustang owners that swap their's out for the intake from an Explorer.

Yes the only reason I ask is that I found this. These are the flow rates for the intake upper and lower.

And I wanted some bling under the hood like this.

That is pretty bling.. but how much is it? would it be worth the minimal increase in flow?

Well, I broke down and bought it... so we'll see what kind of HP and torque rating I'll get. Anyone have a stock 5.0 1998 to 2000 dyno graph.

Suggest you get a baseline pull before the install, or you will never know what you actually got.

why didnt you get the edelbrock man

while im thinking about it, why dont you port the new cobra manifolds out a little bit. looks like you can do a lil grinding in there

Unless he's doing a cam swap, charging it, turbo, or no2 it's not going to do much for a mildly modded engine. They are made to make power in the 2500-6000 range.

intresting... i dont know much about the 5.0 but anyway...

what if he did go with the edelbrock, and down the road did a cam swap, and maybe charged it... would it hurt performance now, like would it hurt compression?

The Edelbrock intake I'm thinking of is the Victor. It works very well with any power adders and can handle 500+ HP. It wouldn't hurt the performance on a stock engine, but I wouldn't expect big things out of the just the intake alone.

Yeah, I am wondering if I should by a chip or wire an S-AFC to the ecu.

I am thinking about adding a 100 shot of NOS I have the kit collecting dust at the moment.

My list so far of what I have purchased.

1. Cobra Intake
2. MAC CAI
3. MAC Catback
4. Torque Monster headers
5. Ford Racing 1.7 Rocker rollers for the GT40P Heads
6. Intake spacer for the GT40 1"
7. Ford Racing 9MM plug wires
8. Ford Racing Valve covers (No performance buts lots of bling!)

Maybe I should purchase a cam, but would I need higher flowing injectors for that app?

ECU requirements I was thinking of using my knowledge of the Import world with an S-AFC don't know if those have apps for 8 cyl though...

I just can't see a plug in ECU like Jet, giving much power because it won't know if a mod will lean or richen the mix through the powerband.

You might wanna trade the 1.7's for 1.6's. The 1.7s make the power in the RPM ranges explorer don't see much of. Everything else looks good, and a cam would definetely compliment everything you have. You may want to get some 30# injectors to go along with all of it. Yes, the jet chip is garbage. Basic programs maps that don't do much for you mods. Get a custom burned chip.

And what is a "S-AFC" ?

Is that like a tweeker deal?

Are the valve covers any taller than stock?

Tell me about these 9mm plug wires

oh and Good luck gettign EGR on that Intake Manifold

The first two responses were the best. The Explorer is basically equal or better than any intake for the stock RPM range, say below 6000. The intakes made for more RPM are better, for more RPM, than other normal RPM intakes.

The Edelbrock Victor 5.0 is just about the best NA, and high RPM, fuel injected intake, but it will kill the bottom end. This goes for the Downs, and other high RPM intakes.

Those flow numbers probably are not fair tests. Many tests have been made of the main FI intakes. The Explorer's intake is equal or better, when the intake path is equal.
(The test above probably flowed the Explorer intake through its elbow, while the others were straight). Fair tests have been made by using either all with an elbow, or all without an elbow.

Change the Explorer intake for looks only. For performance, not high RPM drag racing, keep the stock intake manifold.

SOOOOOO
how much that puppy cost?

Most of the EFI 302 intakes are around $500 new. Whenever a used one turns up, $350 is normal around here. The GT40 intake is about $100 more, but it's really the best looking.

Note that a lot of those intakes are compatible with the GT40 lower. If you choose one of those, you can buy just the upper, and port match it to the Explorer lower intake. The Explorer lower is basically the same as a GT40, except the ports are slightly smaller, for bottom end power.
